Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump uses its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for a very long time – the R-22 (Freon) is now being phased out due to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be in production. Introducing R-410A R-410A is EPA-recognized, chlorine-free and ozone-friendly. R-410A will keep your home cool without hurting the environment. What’s more, Lennox’s most efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system operate efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Branson HVAC, LLC in Ridgedale and the Branson area, our cooling offerings can work with R-410A. If you have a system that was made prior to 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is scarce. Some manufacturers offer alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
